Looking for work? A better job? Or a new career?
If so, visit the 2010 Wharton County Job Fair, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Wharton Civic Center.
"People are sometimes not aware of the services, products and jobs that employers provide in our community," said David Schroeder, executive director of the Wharton Economic Development Corp.
Annually, Schroeder said, Wharton County partners summon the workforce, higher education, chambers of commerce, and economic development offices in an effort to assist employers and staffing agencies to identify employees best able to satisfy local employment needs.
Various booths at the job fair will have that goal in mind for temporary as well as full-time employment. Among them will be schools, manufacturers, area governments, and even the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Census Bureau will conduct on-site testing at the civic center for potential census workers in the 2010 Census.
At 9 a.m., the job fair also will offer separate refresher classes in completing job applications and resume writing.
Admission is free. Booths also are free. Colorado Valley Transit is available to those who need transportation to and from the job fair.
"We hope employers will still sign up for a booth and candidates for employment will come prepared to interview," Schroeder said.
The annual job fair is sponsored by Wharton Economic Development Corp., Workforce Solutions, City Development Corp. of El Campo, El Campo Chamber of Commerce, Wharton Chamber of Commerce, City of Wharton, University of Houston Small Business Development Center, Wharton County Junior College, and Wharton Independent School District.
